The Royal Train
She is the “custodian of the throne” of a bygone monarchy: Margareta of Romania. The princess has been lobbying in Romania for some years now for her family to be reinstated as the head of state by pursuing a grand, sometimes funny and mostly deadly serious protocol. The “Royal Train” is one of the main features in her endeavours and Johannes Holzhausen’s film THE ROYAL TRAIN is a whimsical analysis of all the effort going into preparing the journey into the past: based on a historical tradition, Margareta and her entourage travel through the country in the lounge car of the historical train, while being welcomed with cheers by people for whom the royal family is still part of their national identity. THE ROYAL TRAIN takes us on a journey along the historical route, highlighting the faultlines of modern European history and addressing the issues in an enlightening and entertaining manner.
